EHUA Industries Advances Benin Agro-Industry Project with Major Investment

EHUA Industries' construction site at the Glo-Djigbé Industrial Zone (GDIZ) in Benin is progressing, marking a new phase before the factory's commissioning. The advancement of the construction marks a significant step before the factory's commissioning. The company is preparing a unit to produce feed for livestock and poultry, with plans to manufacture animal feed locally for farm animals. EHUA Industries will also include soybean processing in its operations. The establishment in GDIZ aims to process agricultural raw materials directly within Benin, supporting the country's agro-industry sector. This initiative is designed to harness local agricultural potential and foster industrial growth within the nation.

Project Scope and Capacity

The integrated unit is projected to achieve an annual nominal capacity of 90,000 tons for soybean crushing. This substantial capacity shows the scale of the operation. In addition, it is expected to manufacture 180,000 tons of poultry and livestock feed annually. At full production, forecasts indicate the facility will produce 50,000 tons of soybean meal and 150,000 tons of animal feed per year. The project's operations are designed to rely on local agricultural productions, specifically corn and soybeans. The unit aims to establish a local industrial supply for breeders and poultry farmers within Bénin, providing a key component for their operations. This focus on local sourcing and production is a cornerstone of the project's strategy, aiming to create a self-sufficient and strong supply chain.

Investment and Job Creation

The Banque ouest-africaine de développement (BOAD) approved 4.5 billion CFA francs in financing for the project in December 2024. This significant financial backing notes the project's regional importance and viability. EHUA Industries has announced a total investment of 16 billion CFA francs for its operations within the agro-industry sector. This substantial investment demonstrates the company's commitment to developing Benin's agricultural processing capabilities. The BOAD estimated that the project's potential impact includes the creation of approximately 2,500 direct, indirect, and induced jobs. These employment opportunities are expected to provide significant economic benefits, bolstering local employment and economic activity within Bénin. The project is poised to become a key employer and economic driver in the region, contributing to the livelihoods of many Beninese citizens.

Official Recognition and Visits

The Minister of Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries, Adin Yeton Bloukounon Goubalan, visited the EHUA Industries facilities on August 11, 2026. This high-level visit shows the government's interest and support for the project. Industry and agriculture authorities also conducted a visit in March, further signaling official recognition of the project's importance. The Beninese Agency for the Environment has identified this project as one of several initiatives designed to increase local animal feed production, aligning it with broader national environmental and agricultural goals. Additionally, the project is officially listed on the Invest in Benin platform, indicating its recognized status within national development plans and its appeal to potential investors. This official endorsement provides a strong foundation for the project's long-term success and integration into the national economy.

Strategic Importance

The EHUA Industries project aims to strengthen the local supply of feed for the livestock sectors in Bénin. The initiative is designed to address the domestic demand for animal feed, reducing reliance on imports and supporting local agricultural production. By processing local corn and soybeans, the facility intends to create a stable and accessible source of feed for breeders and poultry farmers across the country. This localized production is expected to contribute to the economic resilience of Bénin's agricultural sector, providing a buffer against international market fluctuations. The project will provide a local industrial supply to breeders and poultry farmers, ensuring consistent availability of high-quality feed. This strategic development is key for enhancing food security and promoting sustainable agricultural practices within the nation.
